School of Building Science

The School of Building Science at Auburn University is interested in attracting a variety of qualified, experienced and dedicated individuals to join its diverse faculty in an ACCE accredited construction education program.

Auburn University, a land grant institution, was chartered in 1856, and is located in Auburn, Alabama. Auburn offers the baccalaureate in more than 130 areas, including exemplary programs in architecture, agriculture, building science, business, engineering, forestry, industrial design, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine. The College of Architecture, Design and Construction at Auburn, established in 1907, is the oldest in the Southeast and one of the oldest in the United States. It is comprised of the School of Architecture, School of Industrial Design, and School of Building Science. The college is committed to collaboration across these disciplines. The School of Building Science at Auburn (BSCI) established in 1947, is the second oldest construction education program in the United States. It has more than 3,000 graduates, including many who lead the construction industry in the Southeast U.S. The school is currently made up of 17 full-time faculty members and the student population will increase to approximately 600 students. BSCI maintains a proud tradition of practical and professional construction education, offering both Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Building Construction. It is a leader in exploring Information Technology applications in construction and construction education. BSCI is an active member of the Associated Schools of Construction.

A new 35,000 sq ft. facility, funded from a supportive industry, was completed in the fall of 2006. The building, the first in Alabama higher education designed to LEED standards, provides a progressive learning environment for faculty and students to explore solutions to challenges facing the construction industry. This building includes multimedia classrooms, computer labs, and a hands-on projects demonstration lab. The school is guided by close ties with a supportive industry. Substantial recurring funds have been committed to support the school in its mission to deliver the highest quality construction education experience possible. Faculty are expected to: 1) Teach students and conduct outreach in accordance with the University mission, 2) collaborate with other disciplines, and 3) interact with construction industry organizations and individuals. Salary is based on a nine-month academic year appointment.

Required qualifications include: 1) strong communication skills, 2) a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field 3) appropriate advanced degree and 4) appropriate experience in the construction industry.

Many of our faculty have a number of the following qualifications: progressively responsible industry experience over their career; effective teaching experience; appropriate construction experience, significant U.S. construction experience, professional registration or contractor's license; capability of incorporating information technology into the classroom; and/or advanced education, certification and/or credentials.

Faculty teach in two or more of the areas in the curriculum and are capable and willing to teach in two others.
