Resumes:

Resumes are a reflection of your own personality. It is always wise to keep things simple. Graphics, if used at all, should be subtle and well thought. Look at the examples of student resumes below for ideas on layout, what to include, and formatting.

For architecture students in particular, a resume is a brief of your involvement and your interests. It is about making firms aware that you exist, and providing contact information for them to get in touch with you.

What they want to know quickly is:

• Your year-level, graduation date
• Your skills
• Any involvement/awards.

Your portfolio should be the meat of your presentation.

FAQs:

q: do i include my GPA?
a: you may; if it's over 3.5, you should

q: do i state an "objective?"
a: objective statements are not necessary for architectural resumes. often, they just look awkward, especially on a general resume.

q: do include my sorority/fraternity?

a: yes

q: do i include work experience not within a firm?
a: yes, to an extent. don't list every job you've ever had, but list a couple recent positions to show your responsibility. jobs you've held within a related field (for example, construction) should be listed.

q: do i have to have references?
a: no, but if you do, you should write "references available upon request" at the bottom of your resume. if a firm wants a reference, they will ask you for one after initial contact.
