 About McWhorter School of Building Science

The McWhorter School of Building Science at Auburn (BSCI) established in 1947, is the second oldest construction education program in the United States. The program has more than 3,000 graduates located worldwide, including many who lead the construction industry in the Southeast U.S. The school is currently made up of 18 full-time faculty members, approximately 600 undergraduate students and 20 graduate students. BSCI maintains a proud tradition of practical and professional construction education, offering both Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Building Construction. It is a leader in exploring Information Technology applications in construction and construction education. BSCI is an active member of the Associated Schools of Construction.
 
The McWhorter School of Building Science is housed within the College of Architecture, Design and Construction at Auburn University. Although there are no official ranking systems, the Auburn McWhorter School of Building Science is regarded as one of the elite building construction programs in the nation.
 
Students in the building science program learn the basic principles of science, architecture, engineering, business and construction. The four-year curriculum leads to the Bachelor of Science in Building Construction, accredited by the American Council for Construction Education.
 
Graduates qualify for positions in all areas of the construction industry. The Cooperative Education Program is offered after completion of two semesters of study at Auburn. Non-majors will be accepted in building science classes on a space-available basis.
 
The McWhorter School of Building Science's non-thesis Master of Building Construction program provides its students with an unparalleled education experience, from conceptual idea to post-occupancy - a practical and industry-oriented study of the interdisciplinary and collaborative processes involved in the design, construction, financing, and management of the built environment.
 
Degrees offered:

Bachelor of Building Construction (125 semester credits - 8 semester program)
  • 375 pre-BSCI students, 240 BSCI students, 17 faculty, 4 staff
  • Community Service projects such as pouring basketball courts for area elementary schools, creating a driveway for a Habitat for Humanity house
  • International study program
  • All classes are held in the new M. Miller Gorrie Center featuring green design and construction and a spacious demonstration lab.

Master of Building Construction (35 or 47 semester credits)

  • 15 to 20 students, 15 facully, 4 staff
  • International study program
  • All classes are held in the new M. Miller Gorrie Center
