Designing Green, the College of Architecture, Design and Construction’s Department of Industrial + Graphic Design’s annual student sustainable design competition, will be held on February 17–18, at Wallace Hall. Sponsored by the student chapter of the Industrial Designers Society of American (IDSA), this year’s Designing Green event will feature Laura Clemons, Founder/CEO of Collaborative Communities Management Company in Birmingham, AL , speaking on sustainable design at  8:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, at Wallace Hall, room 107. Thomas Dempsey, Founder of SylvanSport and a 1989 graduate of Industrial Design, will be bringing his award-winning SylvanSport GO for display in Wallace Hall during Designing Green and will make a presentation at 9:30 a.m. in Wallace 107. The sustainable design competition will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, when student teams are given the challenge to design and build a product completely from scrap, recycled and/or recyclable materials. Judging will take place on Friday, February 18, at 12:30 p.m. and a cookout on Wallace lawn will follow. All events are free and open to the public. The College of Architecture, Design and Construction’s Department of Industrial + Graphic Design will present its annual Juried Student Show on February 17–25, at Biggin Gallery. The Juried Student Show is an annual exhibition and a competitive show featuring the year's best work by DIGD Graphic Design students. Students submit their work in the following categories: Typography, Identity, Publication Design, Poster Design, Interactive Design, Package Design, Illustration, Photography and Collaboration/Environmental Design. The show is open to the public in Biggin Gallery beginning Thursday, February 17, at 8 a.m., and runs through Friday, February 25. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Juried Student Show also will feature a talk by guest lecturer and juror, Michael Alfano, on February 18, at 3:00 p.m., in Biggin Hall room 005. The opening reception and awards ceremony will take place Friday, February 18, from 4 to 6 p.m., in Biggin Foyer. All events are free and open to the public.
