Murphy Named Outstanding Educator

McWhorter School of Building Science Head John Murphy was named Outstanding Educator at the 44th annual Associated Schools of Construction national conference in April. The award is given annually to a faculty member of a four-year ASC member school, and recognizes the faculty member’s contribution to construction education, excellence in teaching, service to the ASC and dedication to the construction profession. Murphy was one of two selected nationally from over 95 national member schools, and a few international member schools as well.  “Receiving this award was a great honor from a group that is dedicated to construction education in a national and international context,” Murphy said. “The future for construction program graduates is extraordinary, and many ASC faculty all across the nation are working very hard to prepare them for leadership in the profession. I am proud that these dedicated educators have chosen me to represent them in this fashion.” The McWhorter School of Building Science hosted the conference at the AU Hotel and Dixon Conference Center April 2-5. The conference, titled, “Synergy: Meeting the Challenges of the Built Environment,” brought close to 200 participants from around the country, along with a number of international educators.
