Bom Dia!

Lisbon: View North from the Castela de São Jorge

Lisbon Day 1:
We arrived in Lisbon yesterday around noon and immediately struck out to explore the city and get our bearings. What was the first thing that I was struck with? The clear, gloriously blue skies? The countless building facades composed from thousands of intricately patterned glazed tiles? The friendly response from everyone that we meet when I mangle the few words of Portuguese that I learned on the plane over (”boa tarde,” “obrigado,” and the much needed “fala englese”)? As I am often a little embarrassed to admit when I travel abroad, what I was initially struck by were the sidewalks. Beautiful, beautiful sidewalks fashioned from tens of millions of hand-struck stone cobbles. Of all the things we consider in our environment, I always forget the sidewalks, until I arrive in some pre-modern city. And then I remember.

Today we are off to meet with the Fulbright folks here, and then officially to work. Rumor has it that we have over 200 reviews to complete before the week is through. Hopefully somewhere along the way we will get back outside to see those sidewalks again…

hello, I has pleased that you liked our Lisbon! I’m one of the students of Lusíada, one of your 200 reviews…
I has checking at Auburn University site, some information about your Master Degree in Architecture, and then I’ve found this magnificent description of Lisbon in this Blog!
I’ve been told that will be a lecture tomorrow at 10:00 about the access and financial conditions. Is there some king of scholarships for students that we can apply?
I’m sorry that I’ve already presented in Monday. But will be other opportunities.
Enjoy Lisbon and if there is some time left, visit Sintra. Is an enchanted Village of Castles and beautiful gardens.

    Best regards

    Bruno:
We are indeed presenting information concerning the graduate opportunities at Auburn. The time? 10am in Lecture Hall #2 - we will present information about the school and about the program along with all of the financial information that we have to date. We will answer any questions that you may have at that time and we will be performing individual interviews with interested students on Friday at (tentatively) 1pm. make sure that you confirm this information with Antonio, as our schedule may change based on the presentations remaining.

Make sure that you introduce yourself to both myself and David tomorrow when you get a chance. We would like to meet with ass many students as possible.

Hello, I’ ve been today at the lecture hall and I was pleased with both your two presentations. They were very enthusiastic like the lecture presented by Bruce and Jack, last semester!
The timing for this application is not the best for me. I ve been working with one Lusiada professor and thing are going great. At same time my posture about Master degrees is to gain experience by working in the “field” at least one year. Me and some of my friends tried to establish a workgroup to develop some research with the same principles than rural studio, but with an urban topic. In Portugal exist to very poverty, but unlike America, we can’t hide it. The idea was strong, but there is no way to archive the attention of the faculty owners and professors.
Well, sad conclusions doesn’t take us anywhere, let’s talk about good things!
About your special programs, where can I find information about Rural Studio, scholarships, etc..? I was thinking in next year to apply for Rural Studio or a Summer Camp if Auburn University have one, my budget doesn’t follow my ambition to learn, so I have to apply to scholarships.
So, I don’t want to take more of your time, and I wish your time left in Lisbon will be great… Hope that the sun will come back… Have a nice flight back and hope to get some news from Alabama.

    Best regards

    Bruno
