Professor Schumacher’s research and teaching focuses on the subjects of material resources and culture, furniture design fabrication and the history and theory of 20th century objects of design. She has received numerous grants supporting research on material resources and furniture design and her work has been recognized in national publications, exhibitions and design competitions. She is the 2005-2006 recipient fellowship grant awarded by the Alabama State Council on the Arts. This project is an exhibition of an environment and furniture design fabricated out of sustainable, reclaimed and renewable resources with the aim to educate others about alternative resources.
