Elements of Interior Architecture
Elements of Interior Architecture is composed of a sequence of seminars offered to third and fourth year students seeking the dual ARIA degree at Auburn University. This sequence of courses offers a variety of approaches to the design and developing of the “up-close,” as well as in depth research into the contemporary issues concerning sustainability, materiality, ethics, and professional practice as it pertains specifically to the interiors profession. Generally, three courses are offered:
Elements of Interior Architecture 2150
This seminar proposes to isolate and study the following elements of Interior Architecture: Form, Function, Spatial Composition and Transformation, Spatial Perception, Spatial Sequence, Interior Typologies, Light, Experience, Proportion, Scale, and Materiality. This class also includes an introduction to the publication of research work in print, digital and web formats.
Elements of Interior Architecture 2160
This course focuses on the elemental Interior Architecture issues of material research and the tectonics of making, including sustainable material research and exposure to design/build.
Advanced Issues Seminars
The Advanced Issues Seminars offer hands on experience in building architectural objects and furniture as prototypes with the intent to test and explore existing materials and sustainable materials.
