MCPThe Auburn University Graduate Program in Community Planning is committed to empowering and educating future professional planners to create healthy, just and artful communities throughout Alabama, and around the world. The program faculty carries out this mission through effective teaching, research, outreach and service.

Degree Offered:
Master of Community Planning (MCP)

Graduate study in the community planning program leads to the non-thesis degree, Master of Community Planning (MCP). The program prepares students for professional planning careers in both the public and private sectors; and the curriculum offers opportunity for study in two areas of focus (community development and urban design), and in three joint degree options. Study plans include a core sequence of required courses, seminars on focused topics within the field, elective work selected in consultation with the program faculty, and an individual synthesis project or comprehensive examination undertaken during the final academic year.

The program also allows interested students to arrange academic enrichment opportunities in conjunction with two of the School of Architecture’s special programs: the Center for Architecture and Urban Studiesin Birmingham (aka the Urban Studio) and the Global Field Studies (aka Study Abroad) programs.
