Admissions
Applications for the landscape architecture program are reviewed in the late fall and early spring. Students are accepted into the MLA in March and April (for the summer and fall semesters). There are no formal deadline dates for submitting application materials, however, applicants seeking summer admission should apply by March 1.
The program receives several graduate assistantships each year from the university budget. These positions provide a tuition waiver and a monthly stipend for ten hours of work per week. External grant funding also allows the provision of additional assistantships. The university-funded assistantships, along with the program’s scholarship awards, are typically assigned in late April to qualified students.
The landscape architecture program faculty reserves the right to use flexibility in evaluating applicants while maintaining appropriate standards. Factors taken into consideration include academic transcripts; GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores; references; level of interest; previous experience; and, if appropriate, interviews. In general, the faculty views 3.0 as a minimum GPA (grade point average) for admission, though exceptions may be granted for students with a lower average if other application materials are unusually strong. Students are expected to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA as required by the Graduate School in all course work.
Those interested in applying to the program should contact the website of the Graduate School for admission (http://www.grad.auburn.edu/ ). Applicants will need to submit academic transcripts, the completed on-line application form, and GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores directly to the Graduate School; provisional admission may be granted for one semester to applicants without GRE scores, though these must be obtained during that semester.
In addition, applicants should submit directly to the program chair three (3) letters of recommendation, and the MLA Program Application. A portfolio is required from applicants with design experience or a design degree. Please send these materials to:
