This existing singlestory shop front was transformed into a state-of-the-art technology center for Greensboro and Hale County.
The building becomes a gateway to the H.E.R.O campus and the two glass ends of the building allow you to see the main campus from Main St. The loft like appearance: the walls, floor, and ceiling were stripped-down to their original materials and along with few built elements will allow the building to be used in a very flexible manner in the future. H.E.R.O works on three year grant cycles and the buildings future function is not easy to predict. As an example of this the Community Career Resource Center presently occupies the space with future expectations that it will indeed become an electronic café for local residents to access the Internet.
The front street canopy and logia serves to structurally stabilize the masonry façade as well as provide a shading device and entrance sign.
The rear façade, made completely of donated Pella windows forms a playful formal relationship and connection with the Childrens Center on the main H.E.R.O campus.
