The open-air pavilion is used for many community events for the residents of Akron. These residents were instrumental in helping to plan and build the pavilion. "One of the most beneficial parts of building the pavilion was working side by side with both the community of Akron and the client, Robert Wilson," says Steve Hoffman.

Robert Wilson, the owner of the pavilion, donated materials and labor, making this a community project in more than one way. The pavilion is surrounded by the marshlands typical of the region, due to the close proximity of the Black Warrior River. The design is that of a vertical truss system, with cables running underneath the brick pavers which form the foundations. The roof is covered with tin and the main beams of the structure were salvaged from a train trestle.
