During Summer of 1998, three 2nd year students designed and built the kitchen and the first "pod". The Pods plug underneath the Supershed and provide a living space, kitchen, bathrooms, and showers for the 2nd year male students.

During the 1998/1999 academic year, three thesis students individually designed and built three additional pods under the Supershed. These pods have allowed eight additional students to attend the Rural Studio, eliminating the need for the Rural Studio to rent student housing.

In the 2002 academic year, a 2nd year group built a “Superdeck” next to the Supershed for informal outdoor eating and performances.

Most recently, the corrugated cardboard pod was completed in academic year 2000-2001.
