The third iteration of the 20K house is a clear response to the critique of the 20K house version 2.
In 20K house version 3 the architects ask the exterior walls that were blank or contained no windows in house 2 to become the structure of house 3. The walls become large trusses, essentially forming a bridge spanning across six very economic footings. Ultimately spanning 120 feet, it offers the house a significant street frontage and presence.
The trusses also offer such a span that the long thin house becomes two houses; a big unit and a small unit with a shared dog-trot between the units. A criticism of the house is its overtly economical use of tin and the sparse OSB interiors but the response to the duplex; two units for the price of one, has been very good.Version 3 is currently occupied by two brothers, Joe and Sherman Moore.
