Gaineswood

This morning we went to the Red Barn so Natalie could check our progress on our watercolors. A few people went to Old Cahawba to attend the Cahawba Advisory Board committee meeting, where they discussed the progress of the church. Currently we are discussing how and where to store the members of the church over the summer until the new fall group can begin rebuilding the church. After lunch, we traveled to Demopolis for architecture history class. We visited Gaineswood, built between 1843 and 1861. Nathan Bryan Whitfield bought the land this home is on from George Strother Gaines in 1842. Whitfield added onto the dogtrot cabin then present on the land to develop his Greek Revival mansion.
