A classy 7 hole privy

another fun trip with our amazing architecture history teacher Dick Hudgens. Today he took us to Selma to Sturdivant Hall which was built by Helms Lee, from 1852 to 1853. Edward T Walt paid $60,000 for the house in 1852 which would be around 7 million dollars now. Now I’m sure your are asking yourself what can one get with that kind of money? Well besides the nice marble floors and amazing plaster work, one can get a nice brick porch, none of that sissy wood porch stuff, one can also gets a very classy two room, seven hole privy, (AKA bathroom). After Sturdivant hall, Dick took us to a really cool mill on the river that had an old brick dome structure on the property that was use as a brick kiln.
