Freqently Asked Questions:

Is a portfolio required for admission into the Pre-Industrial Design programs?

No. Many high schools do not teach art classes. Our studios provide the design fundamentals needed to be a successful designer. Admissions are primarily based on a student’s grade point average and SAT or ACT score. If you have questions regarding the admission requirements, please contact the AU Undergraduate Admissions Office at admissions@auburn.edu; or http://www.auburn.edu/admissions/

What classes should I take in high school to best prepare me for a degree in Industrial Design?

Courses in Math, Science, and English are the best preparatory courses. These classes show dedication to one’s learning and are the best preparation for taking the ACT/ SAT exam. Art classes are encouraged, but not required.

Should I take a foreign language in high school?

If you are a high school student trying to decide on a foreign language, we recommend Spanish or Italian. Many of our study abroad opportunities travel through Italy and several countries in South America.

I have Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and/or dual-enrollment credit from another institution. How can I find out if the credit will transfer to Auburn?

You may access the AP and IB information through the Registrar’s website to determine how this type of credit will transfer to Auburn.

Can I get financial assistance?

Several forms of financial assistance are available to students, including scholarships, grants by federal agencies, as well as low and moderate-interest, federally-insured loans, including subsidized loan programs.
